Here's the thread for "Impotence," aka, the Season Finale. Of course, for all the action they've been, or rather, *not* been getting with each other, B/K might as well be impotent.

Sad state of affairs. And all my TV Guide had to say was:
"Ryan has a change of heart about Cyril's trial; Robson tries to solve his current dilemma." Not very enlightening. Liz |

I have a feeling Cyril will get off death row because of his mental illness. I wonder if TF would let two characters slide. I hope to god he does but I have a feeling he would spare Cyril over Keller which really
makes me sad. I'm gonna do my best to keep my hopes up and put my faith in TF and hope everything works out for Keller. I can't wait for Sunday but I'm sad too knowing another season has come to an end and it's a gonna be a long long wait to see Keller,Alverez,Beecher and co. again. Rick |

From this week's Time Out NY:
Sunday 24 Oz, 10-11pm, HBO "As the drug-addled prisoner Omar White, the fantastic Michael Wright always looks ready to explode. In tonight's season finale, he does just that as his puppy-dog affection for his mentor, Said (Eamonn Walker) gets out of control." |

Just heard that there was a clip on Extra tonight with Keller stripping in front of Sr. Pete! (Why?)
Anyone know if Extra comes on again tonight? |

Extra has also run stories on SVU in the past and Ice-T was recently a guest correspondent as well (for a dog show). In case anyone missed it, check your local listings for air times this weekend. LT, Dean Winters and Chuck Zito were interviewed for the Oz segment. No explanation given for Keller giving Sister Pete (& the audience) the full monty.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts that the "shocker" this year is that when Keller undresses in front of Pete (what else is new?) he's got an erection.
After all, where can you go after pissing in a bucket? It was only a matter of time. |

Here's an article about the finale on the Extra website:
'Oz' Season Finale The show that's been holding audiences captive for five years ends this season with a stunner. "Extra" got an exclusive sneak peek at a shocking scene that included full frontal nudity. But full frontal nudity is nothing new at Ozwald maximum-security prison. HBO's gritty look at a maximum-security prison has spared nothing since the show's debut. ********************************************** EXTRA INFO "Oz: The Complete First Season" is available on DVD beginning March 19th. ********************************************** Dean Winters plays Ryan O'Reilly, a loner with a passion for pain. He says the show is so realistic that fans have difficulty separating fact from fiction. Dean says, "People walk up to me on the street and they'll offer me drugs or they'll say, When are going to kill so and so?" Chuck Zito, who plays mob boss Chucky, says it's no wonder audiences get carried away. He's got real life experience behind bars and says "Ozs" shocking scenes are possible. "I've been in 19 different prisons. I've been in the worst prisons where one guy a month gets killed. So nothing is too overdramatic for me." Actor Lee Tergesen thinks the show's honest graphic nature is why the HBO show has been on top for five seasons. He says, "Its just amazing how people react to it and how much they really get what we're trying to do. And then some people watch it for the full frontal nudity." Whatever the reason, you can see it all on "Oz's" season finale this Sunday. |

Does Keller start out his striptease by singing
"Zip! I was reading Schopenhauer last night. Zip! And I think that Schopenhauer was right." A Stritch in time saves nine, or at least one, lives? I could not see the Extra! segment because it was preempted by the Olympics here. Elsewhere, someone gave a report indicating there was some dialogue in the scene, but most of the lines escaped them. They said before Keller drops trou', Sr Pete is giving him one of her spiels on "Keep the faith." When Keller is in the altogether, the poster said it's as if he is taunting Sr Pete with his nudity. So what's going on? Scenario 127: Alvarez, Ryan, Pancamo, and Keller are being subjected to religious influences. White has been "redeemed." How much redemption can there be in Oz? Some people's must come unraveled, and not just in the sense they get unfairly shanked. Could Sr Pete's spiel be the last straw for Keller? Does he turn on her and completely reject God? Does he say ultimately God has never been much help to him, and in a blasphemous rant, does he contrast God's impotence with his, Keller's, sexual potency? Does he ask Sr Pete what God has ever done for her compared to the charge she is getting from seeing him naked? Bride of Christ or bride of Keller? Does he go on to rub her face in his crimes? She has always seemed rather distant from actual knowledge of the details. The transcript of the segment at the Extra! site says this scene is "Shocking and includes frontal nudity", but makes it sound as though the shock goes beyond the mere nudity. Having yawned my way through the abominable Fat Girl recently, and having remained impassive during a screening of Intimacy last July, I doubt I will find the nudity shocking, and I am hoping for something else more interesting. The above is hard to reconcile with the Beecher/Keller clip. Perhaps he does opt for autocastration, and presents Agamemnon and Norma with a nuptial gift for the aging bridegroom that gives "member of the wedding" a new significance. Seriously, if anyone can add to the details I picked up at another site, please do so. |

Ah Christina, great er....dirty minds think alike, n'est ce pas?
Actually, I now do kinda wonder if he decided to whack it off (ouch!-and I can't even imagine it!). But how do they show that? Computer tricks? Tucked? I can't wait to find out. Please Tom, have some other (nice) surprises for us, the huddled masses longing to breathe free! |

Keller: "I wanna be washed whiter than snow."
Sr Pete: "I'll meet you half way. I'll do your laundry if you'll give me your Ivory." I don't know if he could have whacked it off without ending up in the hospital, although I would love to see Lopresti running in shouting "I got the prick! I got the prick!". Perhaps Cloutier performs psychic surgery. Computer tricks? TF : "I am astounded by the courage my actors show." 10 hours! |

Impotence: A potent episode | ||

I thought this was a powerful, well-written episode. The Keller/Sr Pete scene was not "shocking", unless one is not a regular viewer. Despite my recent darkness, I had created one positive scenario for Keller & Beecher, but I must have posted it on another forum as I cannot find it here to refer to. I was surprised it was in the ballpark of what happened.
In Good Intentions, the Keller/Sr Pete exchange about his "nature" seems rooted in Romans 8. I have previously suggested that Keller experiences God's love through his relationship with Beecher, and that they have been separated. Romans 8 ends with "What can separate us from the love of Christ? ... we have been treated like sheep for the slaughter, and yet in spite of all, overwhelming victory is ours through him that loved us. .... There is ... nothing in all creation tht can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." In my positive post, wherever it is, I paraphrased that as "There is nothing in Oz, not Howell, not Said, that can separate Beecher from Keller." Then my light grew dim, and my posts grew dark. Why were we shown both Robson's and Keller's penises in this episode? Not for gratuitous purposes. Recall Hill's mono about some men make sex a crime, and others are convicted for love? The Robson shot reminded us of sex used as a crime against Beecher. The Keller shot reminded us of Keller's using sex as a crime against his victims and for manipulation, but also that he is capable of loving Beecher, and sex plays a positive role in that. I must see this episode again. Offhand, besides specific relations to stories, Hill's monos might be about God's seeming impotence in the universe. As TF puts it, "Why does God seem to do such a bad job 98% of the time?" I had said one theme this season seemed to be "Does God act in the universe, and if so how?" The answer is yes. The force in his actions is that of love. But his love operates through our love. It is up to *us* to help make the universe better, not by sitting around hoping for miracles, but by acting through love for other people. This was a point of "Works of Mercy." And love must fight hate and other sins, which as we saw tonight, are hard enemies to combat. I was baffled as to why we were never shown Keller's tattoo this season. The answer is that TF was saving up the crucified Christ symbol for another major story - Hill's. We were pointedly shown that symbol on Urbano's arm before the Redding/Hill scenes. Because God loved humans, Christ took the hit for man. Because Hill loved Redding, he took the hit for Burr. The McM exclamation "Jesus Christ!" was not a throwaway here. I do not think Hill's statement "I can feel my legs" was cheap sentimentality. There is a scriptural passage about Christ to the effect that "We are buried with him in his death; we are raised with him in his resurrection". I think Hill's final line refers to that. Also Christ served as the model for us as agents of God's love, another point of Works of Mercy. Now we should imitate Christ, not simply pray to him for miracles while we sit back. I am devastated that Hill will apparently not be continuing the monologues. I never failed to be bowled over by Perrineau's masterful delivery of those. I LOVED the sequence with McM walking through solitary. That's enough for now. Except for one thing. Someone once suggested to me I should make more negative comments about Oz than I do. Well, here comes one. The cheesy music at the close of the Ryan/Cyril scene really blew its impact. Silence would have been better. |

WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY DID HILL HAVE TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope like hell that next season, they begin with that scene and Gloria rushes and saves him with some voodoo magic and he is able to walk. I hate to say it and you all know how much I love Beecher and Keller, but if it was between the three, I would have rather Beecher or Keller died.
THIS SUCKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Great episode indeed as far as powerful drama but I'm very sad that all my faves were put in bad situations. First it is pretty easy to see Hill is gone. A major character from season one no more. I just can't imagine the show without him. I do find some of Hill's ramblings to be boring at times but I know I will miss him dearly. I got over Simon Adebesi eventually but Hill will be a bigger hole that I doubt will ever be filled. I can't think of any other character that could fill that spot of taking us through life in Oz and bring to it the justice that Harold did. May I ask the reason for giving him back his legs just to kill him off? Why not just kill him? I wonder what the reason was behind Hill feeling his legs just before death. Showing the empty wheelchair at the end was that to say to us yes he is dead or was it saying that he will no longer need it because he can walk now?
Next, three major characters now on death row. I have a feeling Cyril will get off but things look bleak right now for poor Keller and Hoyt. I hate to think this way but I believe my favorite Oz character of all time is on his way out:^( Come on Tom you saved sad ass Giles so find that loophole to save Keller, you got a couple months to figure one out before filming starts. Now on to my second favorite character...Alverez. Why did they have to end the season with him doing bad? Was it just so Tim could see all his failings? Alverez has tried so hard to change for the better why couldn't Tom allow him to just accept whatever the board was gonna do and then deal with it? This violent reaction was just too typical. O.k.,on with the highlights,I loved the scenes between Keller and Beecher and Keller and Sister Pete. How hard could that had been for Christopher to show Rita his penis?LOL I also loved the scene between Beecher and Said. Beecher was great all around today. Everything he did in tonights episode was wonderful. Lee was great. I also enjoyed everything with Ryan tonight. Dean was fantastic. I think Dean has got to be the one actor on Oz who has grown the most through the years. The rest of the cast came to the show brilliant but Dean was lacking that same kind of outstanding talent but in recent seasons he has just gotten so much better. Man,another 10 months til the best show on television returns. How do I get through it each year? Thank god for Queer as folk:^) Rick P.S. Hill cracked me up over his comment to Poet being butt ugly if he were a girl.LMAO How true how true. That had to be the funniest thing I ever heard Hill say. |
